August Family Fun – in Lower Manhattan and Beyond

August in Lower Manhattan (and nearby) is replete with family-friendly activities!

Here are just a few notables:

August 10th: Watch independent animated shorts from around the world - at a curated monthly screening event held in the South Street Seaport of NYC.  Presented by ANNY: Animation Nights New York. (- via Downtown Alliance)

August 12th (and various dates): FringeJr and FringeHigh: See the best of the Fringe - for kids and teens. Check out "this year's kid and teen friendly picks from The 20th annual New York International Fringe Festival (FringeNYC), the largest multi-arts festival in North America." (- via NY MetroParents)

August 13th and 20th: Experience the city streets - without cars! "Summer Streets" has traffic redirected in certain neighborhoods to give New Yorkers the opportunity to freely roam and explore. Additionally: "Families will enjoy fitness classes and showcases as well as sports activities and some great sports demos". Presented by the New York City Department of Transportation. August 13th and 20th: Travel just a little further - with a quick ferry ride - and you can feel as though you've traveled back in time! Head to Governor's Island to experience, "Jazz Age Lawn Party: "The biggest (not to mention the cleanest and most family-oriented) regular event in the ‘Retro Nouveau’ movement."
