Celebrate Winter Solstice with Astronomy and Art in Battery Park City
Battery Park City celebrates the Winter Solstice with a unique and lively combination of astronomy, art, live music and ancient legends!
Visit Sunrise/Sunset (Revolution) at Pier A Plaza on December 21 at noon, and marvel in the wonder of the Winter Solstice - the shortest day and longest night of the year.
Hear astronomers describe fascinating ancient astronomical alignments, illuminated only on Winter Solstice, including tombs in Newgrange, Ireland.
Enjoy Celtic music by Mary Courtney and legends by Marianne McShane.
As for "Sunrise, Sunset (Revolution)": It's a new, temporary public art installation at Pier A Plaza.

You can see this interactive, large-scale sculpture before the 21st (or after, as it's there until the summer) created by artists Dharmesh Patel and Autumn Ewalt which has 27 aluminum panels embedded with 9,000 crystal prisms activated by natural light.
The artwork is based on a previous, three-panel installation in Austin, Texas, titled Hyperprism.
