New & Noteworthy – August in Battery Park City
There's so much happening this month in Battery Park City!
Here are just a few recent highlights:
Erasing Borders Festival of Indian Dance
As we've mentioned before, The Battery Dance Festival begins soon! And on Tuesday, August 15, 7-9 pm you can see "Erasing Borders Festival of Indian Dance" presented by the Indo-American Arts Council:
"a range of dance forms from around India. From the south: Bharatanatyam, Mohiniyattam, Kathakali and Kuchipudi; the east: the Sattriya Nritya of Assam; and from central India: Rajasthani folk dances including that of the famous tribe of Kalbelia snake charmers. Works range from traditional invocations to deities – even the revered serpent – to one in which a group of younger dancers expresses ‘Why they Dance’." ( - Tribeca Trib)

Best Cocktail Bar in America Winner: BlackTail
Battery Park City's "Cuban-inspired cantina" BlackTail has been named the 'Best New Cocktail Bar in America'!
"When Prohibition took hold, the thirsty took off. And some of them took off from here, Pier A, aboard the new-fangled flying boats leaving cold, dry New York for warm, carefree Havana.
It’s a story of so many facets: the mass displacement of Latin, Irish and American bartending talent to Cuba. The giddy early days of commercial flight. The lure of luxury."

Art for Dogs
So you've visited Havana in NYC - and now you're longing for your pet to be more cultured?
Brookfield Place has just the thing!
"America’s first art exhibition for dogs, dOGUMENTA, opens at Brookfield Place New York this August! Not by or about dogs, dOGUMENTA is a curated art show for dogs. The exhibition invites artists to create work addressing the canine sensibility through a variety of media—from sound and sculpture to kibble and squeaky toys.
