Stroll through South Cove

South Cove is a collaboration between artist Mary Miss, landscape architect Susan Child, and architect Stan Eckstut. It opened in 1988, on the Esplanade, between First Place and Third Place. This 3-acre public art installation contains winding walkways, views of the Harbor, and "incorporates natural materials, plantings, constructed elements, and the water and sky themselves to create a beautiful and very moving environment."

The artist's vision was for the public to be able to access the Hudson River Waterfront.

What can you do there?

  • Take art classes
  • Take in the foliage
  • Climb on top of boulders

Or just enjoy the wonderful view of one of Battery Park City’s most popular destinations.
