Tour and Tone: At The Battery

The Battery, located at Battery Pl, State St and Whitehall St, has been an invaluable part of New York City’s history, for hundreds of years.

At the battery.org, you can learn all about its history, beginning with Manhattan's earliest inhabitants, the Lenape and Munsee Indians, through to today.

It's an ideal place to get some quiet and explore.

"Its beautiful waterfront and flower gardens make The Battery a lovely place to wander. For those who'd like a longer stroll, the park’s location at the southern tip of Manhattan makes it a classic starting point for walking tours through the city."

In fact, you can take a guided tour of the Battery itself: Every Thursday the park offers tours!

"Learn about the park's rich history, many important landmarks and monuments, the Seaglass Carousel, 195,000 square feet of beautiful perennial gardens designed by renowned Dutch garden designer Piet Oudolf, and so much more!"

Should exploring the park work up your appetite, you don't even have to leave the grounds to get a snack. There are several eateries right there.

And on Sundays and Wednesdays, the sights become a wonderful backdrop for your workout. "Yoga in The Battery" offers an "open level yoga practice on the Woodland Lawn overlooking the Fountain, the blooming Bosque, and majestic Lady Liberty."
